costume

Luton International Carnival is back! The town centre is set to come alive with spectacular colourful costumes, music from around the globe, street entertainers, and international food to tickle your taste buds. So join in the fun on bank holiday Monday, 25 May 2009, from 12 noon until 7pm.

Get your whistles ready for Luton’s biggest street party!

Luton Cultural Services Trust’s Arts Development Unit, together with partners UK Centre for Carnival Arts and Luton Sounds Forum are busy planning the carnival for the past year to make it a great day out for all the family.

Over 100,000 people are expected to attend Britain’s biggest one day carnival - the only event in the town where you will find a blend of Caribbean, African, Asian, English, Latin American and Irish sounds and a variety of dance, food and entertainment all on the same day, superbly reflecting the diverse mix of cultures in Luton.

Carnival will once again include a mix of craft, fundraising and trade stalls, mainly located in Wardown Park but with some in George Street as well as amusements, attractions and rides.

A cocktail of music!
With music stages and sound systems sites at the carnival, there’ll be music to suit all tastes, so listen out for world music, South American, Caribbean, Asian, Irish and Afro-Jazz sounds and so much more!

UK Centre for Carnival Arts will host an area in Wardown Park promoting both the Centre, and Carnival arts and education.

Look out for the stilt walkers, jugglers and street entertainers who will be entertaining the crowds throughout the day in The Mall, St George’s Square and George Street.

Food glorious food!
To get your taste buds tingling, there will be a variety of refreshment stalls featuring finger licking Caribbean and Asian foods rubbing shoulders with more traditional meals and snacks including Jerk chicken, curries, sausages, donuts and fresh fruit.
